Under Network address, specify the share where you wish to save the image. To do this, click Browse and wait a moment until Windows has scanned your network for available devices and displayed the relevant shares. Then select the desired share.
Now enter a valid username and the corresponding password for this share and confirm by clicking OK. Windows will then create an image and copy it to the other PC via the network connection. You can then shut down your computer and install the new hard drive.
However, the new drive is empty: You must therefore first install Windows on it by booting your computer from a DVD or USB stick containing the original Windows files. You can obtain everything you need to create such an installation medium from Microsoft.
During installation, select the default configuration — it will be overwritten anyway when you install your saved image. Then, via the Control Panel, run Backup and Restore (Windows 7) and click on Select another backup to restore files from.
Select Browse for a network location, select the share where the image file is stored, and log in. Now select the image to begin restoring the saved Windows system.
